Chancellors November Report

My Brothers,

Happy Thanksgiving too you and your families.  We are now into the holiday season, with Christmas and Hannukah just around the corner.  We have much to be thankful for living in this great country, as well as our wonderful fraternity.

We recently had one of the most contentious presidential elections in history and yet we were able to democrati-cally elect a new president.  It is safe to say that both candidates had flaws in their character. But don’t we all?  We hold our politicians to a higher standard, as we should, but we should be reminded that they are human just like us. Freemasonry teaches us that we are all good men but we can always be improved and that this is a life-time process and I hope our politicians share in this same concept.

Education, toleration, and understanding are most important to all people as should understanding of other cultures and faiths. Freemasonry offers further “light” or more commonly, more knowledge as we continue our journey.  The Collegivm Lvminosvm’s primary goal is to help fulfill this promise of more light.  With this in mind, we will have an informative presentation at our upcoming meeting.  Brother Matthew J. McMahon of Bristol Lodge in North Attleboro, MA will present a lecture titled: “College Fraternities and Freemasonry in Early America”. See his abstract and bio elsewhere in this notice.

It will be 4 months before the Collegivm will have their next meeting on March 28th.  This is also our Annual Meeting and installation of new officers.  The Collegivm does not have an “official” progressive path to becoming Master/Chancellor yet this coming year our Senior and Junior Warden are looking to advance forward while it is assumed our Treasurer and Secretary will retain their positions. It is most important that all current appointed officers communicate their intentions to remain in their positions or advance forward, to the Senior and Junior Wardens.  If you are a member of the Collegivm and interested in taking an officer’s position it is imperative that you let the Wardens know of your interest.  This can be done at the upcoming meeting.  The officers will be having an organizational meeting sometime during the winter months to set a new slate of officers and agenda for next year.

I would please remind all officers and those interested that your commitment to serving must be a priority.  The Collegivm only meets 4 times a year and those meeting dates are posted a year in advance.  Participating means that this commitment supersedes all other concordant body commitments.  You are expected to attend all 4 meetings during your term of office. If you foresee conflicts with your work schedule, your blue lodge, or any other concordant body meeting dates, then we thank you in advance for your interest but now is not the right time to serve.

It is unfortunate but we still have several members who have not paid their dues for the calendar year 2016.  If dues are not received by December 31st of this year you will be dropped from membership.  Please review your records and if you do not have a membership card dated 2016 you are in arrears.  You have received two personal reminders about the status of your dues and this will serve as the last notice.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming meeting.  If for some reason you are unable to attend, I extend to you and your family a very Happy Holiday Season and a prosperous New Year.
